Hi,

I thought this might be a fun way to get to know each other and
share what 'field trip' activities we most enjoy doing with our children
and our homeschool support groups.

Of course, everyone can choose more than one.

A favorite field trip for us is really just whatever is going on or we are studying about that is experienced outside of our home and in a more hands on way. It can be anywhere. We're still getting used to the freedom we have to do this, so we don't have a whole lot of experience yet.

The boys have been studying different presidential contenders and we are doing a sign and information blitz in our neighborhood tomorrow morning. They are so excited to get out and be involved after making their own signs and stuff.

We have really loved the Biological Park and Zoo and Aquarium on a consistent basis this last year. That membership more than paid for itself.

I like the field trips that don't cost money.

Free days at the Albuquerque Museum are very interesting.

The boys would probably like to go to the Dions tour more than anything right now, since we have been talking about doing it for a while.

The one we are most excited about is a road trip we are saving all of our change for this next summer. We want to learn as much as we can and get out to historical sites as much as possible.

This website has so much information on field trips that we need to plan to take advantage of participating in.

You know, it's funny but I don't consider most of these things to be field trip activities, rather things we just do in life.  With the exception of maybe set up "tours".    I was just thinking this morning that the next time we go to Denver to visit family I'd like to take Ethan on a tour of the Denver Mint.  I would consider that more along the lines of a field trip.

We are really enjoying the Rio Grande Nature Center, the NM Biopark and the NM Musum of Natural History. They offer so much for such a low cost and so close by.

New Mexico is such an amazing state to travel in! We have visited numerous astronomical, archaeological and geological sites in the last year. One of my favorites is the Bandera Volcano near Grants. I also highly recommend trips to the Sunspot Observatory, the NM Museum of Space History, Petroglyphs, Salinas National Monument and Chaco Canyon. The Junior Ranger program run by the National Parks system is a wonderful way to introduce children to the natural world.

You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.

When we were with the East Mountain Home Schooler's group, we went on a tour at a small chocolate factory here in Albuquerque.  We even got to make our own!!!  It was a blast!!  Now, really, who doesn't like chocolate??!!!  We can get a list going for anyone interested.
So, shall we start a list??
I will get all the info for the tour, ok?

Wolf Sanctuary up by Grants,   http://www.wildspiritwolfsanctuary.org/index.htm    Great place to learn about respecting wildlife.  The docents are well educated and friendly to the children while they educate the kids and adults about how these animals live.  These animals aren't the "big bad wolves" depicted in fairy tales.  Beautiful animals.

Salman Rasberry Ranch up in Northern NM   http://www.salmanraspberryranch.com/      They have acres of organic rasberries (delicious), and you can pick them yourself.  When we went, the owner gave us a little tour of the ranch and showed the kids how they're grown and harvested.  They have a gift shop too.  Truly God's Country in August.

Bosque del Apache in San Antonio, NM, also a great place to be around September    http://www.friendsofthebosque.org/      you guys just have to be there to witness the beauty of these birds.

The Sandia Peak Tram, is also a fun place to visit.      http://www.sandiapeak.com/   The world's longest tram.  Check out the Cibola National Forest as your tram lands you at the top of the mountain at 10,000 some feet.  Really beautiful site.

Yes NM has many great sites to visit, countless,

MY favorite field trip was when I took my four kids to the winter wings festival at the Rio Grande Nature center a few years ago. They had live birds the kids could get up close and see. Also they had a room full of everyday items(egg cartons, shredded colored paper, buttons, etc.) and they let the kids make art with them. My kids loved it, and the volunteers were so patient and helpful. After that the kids got to look at the pond by viewing wall. There were alot of different types of geese and ducks flying in and out of the area.
