The ERC, Education Resource Center, is a ministry of CAPE-NM, located in
Albuquerque at Grace Baptist Chapel, 12201 Comanche Rd. NE.
Open two days a week, the ERC provides a staffed facility where veteran home
school "experts" can provide advice, support, and encouragement, along with
curriculum consultation, a curriculum library, home school supplies, testing
and referrals, and home school community resource information. Over the
years, more than 4,000 books and reusable resources such as microscopes,
telescopes, and math manipulatives have been added to the lending library.
In addition, a mentoring program links experienced home school families
with beginners.
Call 505-292-3156 or email erc@cape-nm.org.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anybody have any experiences with the local
Educational Resource Center located at 12201 Comanche?

Terryl Walters 292-3156 is the contactperson.

Is there anything useful/applicable there for any of us?
In advance, thanks for your info!

Our web site has just a short blurb:

Quoted Text
Tijeras Foundation's Christian Education Resources.
Provides K-12 curriculum lending library, SAT testing, spelling bees and science fairs. One-time nonrefundable $20 fee. Visit http://www.tijeras.org/tjerasERCHome.asp.

I think there's a lot more info at the web site about what they offer. I've never been there.

Interesting!  Thanks!  I've recently heard that they're affiliated with CAPE now, too.

Other Resources:
ERC offers resources in such areas as sports, music, computer training, and tutor referrals.

I don't know anything about the resource cetner on Commanche, but I use the YWCA resource center affliated with Carino at 210 Truman.  They have a whole array of books, games, puzzles, etc.  I've found all the available resources very useful for my children in regards to homeschooling.  They don't have too much for older children who are probably 12 years old on up.  Their office number in case you have any questions is 254-9922.

Renee, can you check the material out or do you need to use it there? Do you need to be a YMCA member to use it? I could call them, but I thought you might know. Thanks!

I have, or maybe *had*, an ERC membership.  You're right Carissa, they've recently changed things around.  They used to be operated by The Tijeras Foundation, but now it's CAPE.  I don't remember the details, but instead of the $20 lifetime membership, I believe there's an annual fee now.  It isn't much if you're already a member of CAPE, which I'm not.  I think for non-members it's $25?  I'm not sure.  But I can call Terryl and find out.  I've talked with her many times before.  She is very sweet, knowledgeable, and helpful.

I'm sure they would welcome to you go in and look around before deciding if you wanted to become a member.  Terryl gave me a "tour" of sorts my first time in there.  It's kind of a small place, but they've got a lot of stuff packed in there!  Some is available only to use there, but most of it can be checked out, even for extended periods.

Gretchen, when you find out, I'll update the info on the website about the resource center, because I guess what it says now is wrong.

Here's the basics:

Instead of a lifetime membership, membership must now be renewed annually.

You may either get a membership with the ERC directly for $25 per year, or if you are a member of CAPE, your ERC membership is free.  CAPE membership also apparently costs $25 per year.

I really don't know anything about CAPE.  Does anyone else?

HI Carissa - They are still located in the same building.  We have gotten lots of our materials there, and the ladies are very helpful and knowledgable.

Thanks Juls!    Forgive my confusion . . .

I checked this website; but, it was no longer workin'
http://www.tijeras.org/tjerasERCHome.asp

Then, I checked this site, and it lists the ERC as being located on Comanche:

Hello ERC families,

The Education Resource Center (ERC) has transitioned into a ministry of Grace Baptist Chapel.  We are excited to be able to continue this service to the homeschool community.  Here is a quick overview of what to expect...

Hours:  The ERC is open on Fridays 10am-4pm.  The same great Friday volunteers that you know and love will be there to assist you.  Additional consultation can be arranged by appointment.

Cost:  Your current ERC-CAPE membership will be effective through May.  There will be no new membership fees this school year.

Email:  We will continue to send out email notifications of homeschooling activities around town.  Please note that there is a new email address:  ERC.GBC@gmail.com

I am going through the process of updating the email blast list.  Please let me know if you would prefer to be removed from the list, if you know of someone who wants to be added to the list, or if you have a different email address you would prefer to use for this correspondence.  Thank You.

Sincerely,

Kristi Rardin, on behalf of the ERC staff and Grace Baptist Chapel
