Hello,

My name is Jenifer and I have just moved here to ABQ.  I had my children in public school back in Arizona and was disappointed with the schools here in ABQ so I read lots of books and looked up a lot on the internet and decided to homeschool my children.  I have 3 school age daughters, Devi-10, Katlyn-8 and Lori-5 and also an almost 3 year old son (July 1st).  I am very excited about homeschooling.  I always wanted to be a teacher and I have already had a lot of fun preparing lesson plans and cutting out patterns.  The kids are VERY excited about learning in their pajamas and not having to wear uniforms or go to school on their birthdays.  We have decided that year round works best for our family since we like to take vacations at odd times of the year.  I would love to be a part of this support group and look forward to meeting all of you.

Jenifer

Hi Jenifer, welcome to Albuquerque!! Sounds like you and your family are going to love homeschooling. In talking to different people, it seems like we get into hs-ing for so many different reasons (the substandard public schools being one biggie!) but no matter what path you take, you discover so many unanticipated joys in learning at home with your kids.

We also do schoolwork year-round. In fact, we're kind of weird in that we actually do a little bit every day, not even making a distinction for weekends. It works for us, but every family is different!

Yes, the park day starts at 10, but often we're late, so 10:30 sounds good too.

This is what Elizabeth posted about the park:

Here's a map: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/m.....try=US&geodiff=1

On the map, you'll see the park just north of the intersection of Wyoming & San Antonio. If coming by the interstate, I'd take I-25 to San Antonio, then San Antonio east to Wyoming. Take Wyoming north to Loma del Norte Street (there's no light; if you get to the light at San Francisco, you've gone 1 block past the turn). Turn west on Loma del Norte and the park will be on your right in about a block.

This is a really nice park. Good shade, lots of grass, paths for biking, a little used basketball & tennis court for trikes or ride-on toys, two different playground areas for big & little kids, two banks of swings for b/l kids.

The link for directions above doesn't seem to work. (I think there's a problem with cutting and pasting them. Anyway, here's one that does work: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/m.....try=US&geodiff=1

Or for directions in words, see the original thread: http://www.abqhomeschool.com/cgi-bin/blah/Blah.pl?b=1.7,m=1141408239
