This fall, I noticed a group of Brownie homeschoolers meeting informally, not as a troop. At the time, we were in a troop, but that's fallen through.

Are there any homeschool or homeschool-friendly Brownie groups now? Is there interest in this?--I'm prepared to start a troop if there's a need, and interest.

Meanwhile, I just need a group for my dd, 7, to meet with other girls.

Hi Diane.  You might have been speaking about us (Rio Grande Homeschool Juliettes).  Please feel free to contact me with any questions at 891-8910.
~Crystal~

Here is the info.

Rio Grande Juliette (Homeschool) Girl Scouts

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RioGrandeJuliettes/?yguid=232480378

We are an inclusive group of homelearners within the greater Albuquerque and Rio Rancho areas who prefer to operate as Juliette Girl Scouts.

What is a Juliette you ask? Well, a Juliette is an Individually Registered Girl Scout, not involved in a Troop. With her families help, she decides and implements the petals, Try–Its, badges, and patches she chooses to earn. Within our Council, she has access to almost all Council and Service Unit events that Girl Scouts has to offer. Please check with your local Service Unit for details, etc.

We organize events where all the girls can get together. This is inclusive off all age levels. Within the group, we hope that others will organize smaller, level specific opportunities for the girls. The opportunities are endless and the commitment you have is to help facilitate your daughter in her wishes to earn something. You are also responsible for her safety, permission slips (http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/forms/), etc. at any event or function. Her commitment is to herself.

If you are interested in joining or would like further information, please contact Crystal at WillowsFortress@cableone.net or Carol at CLChase67@msn.com

Yours in Scouting,
Crystal and Carol

For further information you can check out specifics at:
National: http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/what_is_gs/
Our Council: http://www.chaparralgirlscouts.org/membership.htm
Rio Rancho Service Unit called Desert Rose: http://www.freewebs.com/drsu/index.htm

Remember that most information that comes out from National Headquarters, Councils, and Service Units, is geared towards Troops.  Just replace the word Troop with Juliette.

Girl Scout age levels are:

Daisy (age 5 and 6)

Brownie (age 6 to 8 )

Junior (age 8 to 11)

Studio 2B (age 11 to 17)

You will need to register your daughter with our Council prior to attending any of our Juliette activities.

To register your daughter in Girl Scouts please follow the below instructions.

1. Go to our Council office at Girl Scouts of Chaparral Council, 4000 Jefferson Plaza NE
Albuquerque, NM 87109, (505) 343-1040 http://www.chaparralgirlscouts.org/ContactUs.htm

2. Go to the front desk and ask to register your daughter as a Juliette Girl Scout.

3.  Fill out the Girl Registration form and the Dues Summary form.  If you are registering as an adult Girl Scout (which I highly recommend), then fill out the Adult Registration form also.

4.  Pay the $10.00 per girl or adult yearly fee.

5.  Last but not least, walk across the hall to the Girl Scout Council Shop and have fun.  Depending on your finances, you could purchase the following items, age specific handbooks and activity books, uniforms, backpacks, etc.  Don’t forget your daughters Juliette patch.

Note:  Uniforms are not mandatory in Girl Scouts.  It is up to what your daughter wishes to wear.  I would suggest the Daisy Smock, Brownie vest or sash, Junior vest or sash to place badges, patches, etc. on.

To find out which Service Unit you are in, go to the link below.  Find the school your daughter would be zoned in.  Scroll across and you will see the Report Code, Registration Area, Service Unit and an email contact.  You will not need to fill out additional paperwork with your Service Unit once you have registered your daughter with the Council.  However, you can email the contact to obtain further information regarding “local” events.

Check the website for the newest “Join the Fun” Council activity program book.  This contains all  the upcoming Council events.

Oh and if your daughter is already registered this year with a troop you would just need to go down to council and say that you want to change her registry to a Juliette (Individually Registered GS).

Hi Diane,
Tracy is a homeschooling mom leading a small troop of homeschooled Brownies aged 6-8.  I don't know if they're accepting any more members but you can find out by emailing her at draust@comcast.net
