Downtown Albuquerque is rockin' now-a-days!
The Downtown Action Team works ferociously, under the direction of Mayor Martin Chavez, to improve the Downtown ABQ experience.

Visiting Downtown ABQ with kids involves a bit of pre-planning.
May I recommend somethng?
Park as close to the bus station (1st and Central) as you can and ride the FREE D-Ride bus.
It makes a stop at the Main Library which is a great library to tour together.
You can also go to the Galleria.
Across from the bus station, when you are done riding the D-Ride loop umpteen-times, is Tucano's and Downtown Century movie theater.

This is a good place to start and can be done with one parent (depending on the # of kids w/you).
If both parents are available, you could walk along Central and see a number of interesting shops and galleries.
It's definitely coming along . . .
