Who can join Summer Reading?
Anyone! Toddlers, kids, teens, adults, families; all are welcome.

How do I join?
Sign up at any library in the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Library System between May 30 and July 25. It is free to join.

Do I have to have a library card to join?
No, anyone can join.

What do I read?
Read what you enjoy or listen to someone read to you.
Comic books, magazines , e-books, newspapers, and audiobooks--it’s your choice.

Do I have to read every day?
You decide how often and how long to read.
Just be sure to keep track of your time.
Remember, the more hours you read the more prizes you earn.

How do I earn prizes?
KIDS: Color in one circle on the caterpillar for each hour of reading or listening time. After 10 hours of reading or listening time, come to any library to choose a prize and enter your name into the grand prize drawing for other great prizes.  Also, you can earn a reward each time you visit the library by showing your reading log to a staff person.  Limit 1 library visit reward per day.

TEENS mark off one bug on your reading card for each hour of reading/listening time. After 10 hours of reading or listening time, come to any library to choose a prize and enter your name into the grand prize drawing for other great prizes.  Also, you can earn a reward each time you visit the library by showing your reading log to a staff person.  Limit 1 library visit reward per day.

ADULTS read/listen for 10 hours to earn a chance to enter the adult prize drawing.

Can someone who can’t read join?
Yes. They can earn prizes when someone reads to them.

What are some of the prizes for kids and teens?
Microscope-telescope combo, books, 3D holographic memo pads, Ninja rubber ducky squirters, ¡Pod Shuffles, and more!

What happens when I complete my reading log?
KIDS & TEENS turn in your completed reading log, then choose a prize.
Enter the grand prize drawing and pick up your next reading log.
Keep reading, earning prizes, and entering the grand prize drawings up until July 25th.
ADULTS turn in your reading card, get another one, and keep entering the adult prize drawing.

Can I sign up early?
The earliest you can sign up for SUMMER READING is May 30. Sign-up continues until July 25.

Why is SUMMER READING important?
Studies have shown that children who read during the summer generally maintain their reading skills, and that children who see their parents read, or who read with their parents generally have scored higher on standardized tests.

Summer Reading Program Events
Thoughout the summer participating libraries will feature free entertainment by magicians, musicians and storytellers.
