HI! We just moved here from Minnesota to Rio Rancho, and are also new to the homeschooling genre as well. I've been contemplating it for a while, even "lurked" on this site before  we moved (LOL) as I was disappointed in my sons teacher and education in Minnesota in general. I have 3 kids ALex 10 Mari 5 and Max 21months. Alex and Max have primary immune deficiencies also which is also a consideration for our reason to homeschool.
These park days sound great, can I just show up and how do I know if I'm in the right place? It would be great for my kids to be able to meet others too!
Thanks so much,
Missy

Welcome!  I just moved here in October from GA so I'm not the best one to give directions.  Hopefully someone else will do better after me but here goes.  Take Golf Course south (towards Albuquerque) for what seems like a long way especially the first time.   Turn right on Montano.  Go until you see a park on your left.  (It will be just after you go thru the Unser red light intersection.)  Hope to see you on Tuesday!  Terri, Diane 9, Caroline 4

Welcome, Missy.  My dh's family has a fishing cabin up on Ottertail Lake in MN.  His mom and his grandpa will be heading there this summer.  It is beautiful in the summer.  Not so sure I'd want to be there in the winter, though! Where are you from?

And Terri, where in Georgia are you from?  My son was born in Macon.

It seems, having grown up as a military brat, plus having lived quite a few places as an adult, that I have some sort of a geographical connection with everyone I meet.

Hello all! We are from a suburb of St Paul, called Roseville. We were basically in between St Paul and Minneapolis. Yes the summers were beautiful by the lakes and up North, Duluth is GORGEOUS, but the winters are terrible!!!
Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. Do the park days start right at 1p or a little later or earlier? (Just asking because Max tends to nap around 2-230pm)

HI Missy!

Terri's directions are great- yes, it starts at 1, just show up. THe park is called Santa Fe Village Park, and there is a big grassy (yes grass!) field next to it, then the Taylor Ranch library. The playground is on the corner and we all park on the street next to the playground.

Just make note, in a couple of weeks we will start meeting at 10 (to beat the heat for the summer) instead of 1. I think that starts in May.

Where in RR are you? I am in Cabezon.

Hope to meet you at park day! There are always new people coming, please don't hesitate to join us

Missy - Welcome! You're also invited to join us at the east side park day. Depending on where you live, it might not be that much of a drive  for you. I think we're about 20 minutes away from Intel (RR Blvd/19th St). I'd love to hear about your experiences with the Minn. schools -- I always heard they were very good, although I guess most of them are compared to ours in NM.

Cindy - the east side park day is going to switch to 10am at the beginning of May. Have you guys discussed at the west side park day whether you want to switch times as well? I seem to remember that last year, you all met in the summertime at 11am, not 10am?

Elizabeth,

Yes, I thought we met at 11, but just this past Tuesday Jenifer was saying we'll be meeting at 10. I'll have to double check with her next week. I didn't question it because 10 or 11 sounds fine with me Either way, I'm happy!

Thank you all for such the warm welcome!
We just moved into the development called "Loma Colorado" off of High Resort and 528. Most Minnesota schools are good, although before we moved I had found quite a few people did homeschool, actually more than I thought. The public schools aren't quite as big as here, although class sizes ranged from 20-28kids. We were at a private Catholic school and my daughter's afternoon Kindegarten only had 11 kids so it was great, however my son's class had 28 kids (3 classes per grade) and the teacher was overwelmed. Unfortunately my son is medically fragile at times and missed a ton of school, which this young teacher didn't know how to handle it. Even AFTER WE provide her with resources etc etc. Anyway, long story short, I have been comtemplating, reading etc about homeschooling for the last 6months. (Also my procrastination of actually signing them up at E Stapleton here has helped either LOL)
Again thanks for the warm welcome, and I hope to meet many of you Tuesday, and maybe even check out the eastide park day as well-thanks for the invite!

Missy,
Terri here again to answer your question I lived in Valdosta for 3 years and before that Florida.  Mostly Orlando, Pensacola, and Tallahassee.  Cindy came here from Atlanta less than a year ago.  We looked in Loma Colorado.  What a wonderful neighborhood!!!!! and near the library, pool, skating rink, and ball fields!  Awesome!  Sounds like you are doing great all the way around!  See you on Tuesday.  Oh, just fyi, everyone either brings blankets or folding chairs to sit.  Now that it has gotten warmer you might want your water bottles....

Thanks for the thoughts, if all stays well we should be able to come on TUesdays park day. (I hope I don't junx myself now!!) He was admitted Tuesday evening and we just got out today. They thought he had menningitis or some kind of blood infection but that turned out negative.
Hope to see you all Tues!
