BBC: Schools - Bitesizehttp://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/revision/
Age Range: 4-16+
This BBC website offers interactive games for learning a variety of subjects
- but the focus of this review is on Language Arts. The games are colorful,
interactive, and are sure to engage your children in the study of everything
from phonics to Shakespeare.
When you get to the site, you'll see menu icons in the center of your screen that include:
KS1 Bitesize - This section contains activities for "preschoolers" in
numeracy and literacy, although in my opinion, some are more suitable for
early elementary grades. Click on the icon and a new page opens. Click on
"Literacy" and guide your youngster through playing games that teach
phonics, rhyming, alphabetical order, spelling, pronouns, conjunctions,
synonyms, punctuation and sentence construction. Again, some of these
activities seem pretty ambitious for very young children. Non-readers will need help.
KS2 - Bitesize - This section is for ages 4-11. Click on it and a new page
opens where you can select "English." Click on that, and another page opens
with games for learning reading, writing, spelling and grammar.
KS3 - Bitesize - This is for ages 11-16. Click on it and a new page opens
with a selection of activities. Click on "English" and a another page opens
with activities that develop skill in reading, writing, and understanding Shakespeare.
I'll leave it to you to explore the rest of the items on the menu that
provide activities in every subject that meet learning standards in the U.K.
including Scotland and Wales. There are many, many levels of activity in
every subject. Bookmark the site, as you'll need to return to explore it fully.
