Hello everyone! My name is Tara, and I have a four-year-old boy. We knew we wanted to homeschool when he was in utero, so we've been preparing for quite some time. Our son is and will remain an only child, so socialization is our biggest concern. We wanted to explore this group more because it seems like there are a lot of members, and it seems well-organized. I look forward to getting to know other members as well as getting good homeschooling advice.
Hi Tara! I've got a 5 year old boy. There's plenty of kids for your son to play with in the group.
The way I got started- I just showed up at park day. Depending on where you live and your preference, there are 2, eastside and westside. Ours (westside) is today at 10. Maybe we'll see you there.
I also have an only child, so I understand the social aspects of wanting to join a group. As Cindy said, please feel free to join us at one of our park days. We'd love to meet you.

Thank you for being so hospitable! This seems like a really great group. Has anyone had any experience with the Hooked on Phonics programs? I recently bought the Hooked on Kindergarten for my 4-year-old, and it seems a little boring. I know repetition is the key to learning things, but can't we vary the way the material is repeated? I have a lot of questions about introducing material at this age and how to work with the way boys are wired to learn. We are planning on going to the east side park day on the 12th. I look forward to meeting other homeschoolers!
Tara, Ruby learned to read using primarily the BOB Books and the free web site http://www.starfall.com (and of course lots of trial and error and informal interaction with mom and dad), but I know that at least a few people in our group used Hooked on Phonics with great success. See you on the 12th!
