Did you know that...

July 1st, is "Build A Scarecrow Day" and that July 3rd is "Fry an Egg On The Sidewalk Day"?

Get tons of fun, free activities and ideas for celebrating these days and events with your young children and family throughout the month of July - including "July 4th - Independence Day," "July 10th - Teddy Bear's Picnic Day," "July 13th - Cow Appreciation Day," and "July 20th - Moon Day"

at UniversalPreschool.com's FREE Learning Calendar located here:
http://www.universalpreschool.com/learning_calendar/

And for Older Students...

July 1st is also the day that the U.S. Civil War Battle of Gettysburg began in 1863.
It lasted for 3 days and left 50,000 men killed or wounded.
It was the most tragic battle of the Civil War.

Other notable events in July include:

July 4 - Independence Day

July 8 - The First Crusade in 1099

July 15 - Rembrandt's Birthday

July 24 - Amelia Earhart's Birthday

Homefires' FREE Learning Calendar is designed for older students of elementary and high school age.
The Calendar started as a DVD Learning Calendar.
We highlighted historical events for each day of the month - and matched them with DVD suggestions to enhance learning about that particular subject/topic.

Beginning this month...WE HAVE EXPANDED THE CALENDAR RESOURCES and now it not only includes DVDs - but recommendations for books and websites to further the learning as well! We have made every effort to provide resources for both elementary and high school students wherever possible.

This is a terrific, free resource for homeschooling families (and "normal" families too! LOL) - and we hope you'll take advantage of it by visiting soon at:         http://www.homefires.com/dvd/july.asp
