The Mid-Rio Grande Home School Band is currently preparing for our 21st year of performing in the Albuquerque and surrounding areas. The band is comprised entirely of home school students ages 9-19 and consists of three bands to accommodate all skill levels including beginners. We rehearse once per week and have performed in churches, nursing homes, the state capitol, and the Rio Grande Botanic Gardens to audiences of more than 2000 people. The students learn and develop the proper skills and techniques of a traditional concert band instrument and are able to participate in local solo/ensemble festivals, district wide honor bands, the Albuquerque Youth Symphony program, community groups, and the NM All-State Small School Band that performs for the NM Music Educators Association annual conference.
The recent success and growth of the group in Albuquerque has generated enough interest that rehearsal locations have been secured in NE and NW Albuquerque, Los Lunas, and Tijeras. If you are interested in joining this group of more than 30 home school families, or obtaining more information, please contact me directly. If you would like to meet me in person, I will be at our annual Band Fair on Wednesday, August 13. Details about the Fair are below. We are starting rehearsals soon, so please contact me with questions.
