You are invited to attend the New Mexico International Year of Astronomy Strategic Planning Meeting, Sunday, September 28 from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the NRAO Array Operations Center in Socorro. Lunch will be provided.

The Very Large Array (VLA) Education Officer, Judy Stanley will host this event.

The goal for this meeting is to provide an opportunity for the  New Mexico Astronomy Community and others who provide astronomy programs, an opportunity to get together to learn about, discuss, and brainstorm events, ideas,  and plans for the International Year of Astronomy happening in 2009.

The meeting format is as follows: Judy Stanley will give a brief power point from IYA USA Node, NASA, and NRAO. Dee Friesen, President of The Albuquerque Astronomical Society (TAAS) will present an overview of TAAS’s IYA events/ideas/plans.

Next, it is your turn! Participants are encouraged to sign up for time to present their IYA events/ideas/plans. We would end with breakout sessions giving all participants the opportunity to network.

A sample agenda is as follows:

11:30 – 11:45 Welcome and Introductions of all participants

11:45 – 11:55 IYA Overview power point (Judy Stanley)

11:55 -12:05 Lunch is served (working lunch)

12:05 – 12:10 Overview of NRAO events/ideas/plans for IYA (Judy Stanley)

12:10 – 12:20 Overview of TAAS events/ideas/plans for IYA (Dee Freisen)

12:20 – 1:15 This time will be divided into five or ten minute slots. This is YOUR opportunity to present your IYA events/ideas/plans to the meeting participants.  Contact Judy Stanley to reserve your time slot.

1:15 – 1:45 Breakout sessions – Networking  

1:45 – 2:00 Summary - Thanks - Dismiss

We have chosen to schedule this meeting the day after the Enchanted Skies Star Party. http://www.enchantedskies.org Our hope is that people would consider attending the star party and the IYA meeting. If people can not attend the entire star party possibly they could come for the last day of the ESSP attending the Chuck Wagon dinner and dark sky observing portion of the star party on Saturday and attend the IYA meeting on Sunday.
