Young people

Course Descriptions

Our Mission is to be a great place for young people to learn about the processes involved in acting, to build self-confidence, imagination, expressive skills, and the ability to work together while having fun.  At the end of each course, students present a showcase performance for friends and family.

Imagination in Motion          Ages 4-5     9:30-10:15     Rm. B427     $65
Creative drama and dance activities for children, geared to discover dramatic expression through imagination, movement, multi-sensory props, and the joy of role playing.

The Story Players          Ages 6-7      9:30-10:30     Rm. B409     $65
Read a different well-known book each week and explore elements of the story through acting, imagination, and working together as an ensemble while enjoying the best in children’s literature.

The Young Actor Prepares I     Ages 8-9     10:30-12:00     Rm. B427     $70
Begin to build the basic skills of using the mind, body, and voice, as well as how to collaborate with others and develop self confidence through drama exercises and improvisational activities.

The Young Actor Prepares II     Ages 10-12     12:30-2:00     Rm. B409     $70
Focused practice on the basic skills of level I, while learning how to pursue objectives, overcome obstacles, create characters through building original scenes and short plays working as an ensemble.

Improv Techniques          Ages 13-15     10:30-12:00     Rm. B409     $70
Learning rules for improvisational acting, and the ability to think faster and more creatively on stage and how to take that knowledge and transfer it to performance.

Acting for Film               Ages 10-15     12:30-2:00     Rm. B427     $85
Using the basic skills including the pursuit of an objective and overcoming obstacles, and creating a style of acting that transfers from the stage to the camera. Each student will make a DVD “reel” of their on-camera performance work to take home as well as learning how to handle the film equipment and become familiar with the terminologies and operations behind the lens.
