Yikes! Chinese is harder than I expected.

Eli is in his second semester of classes with the Alb Chinese School, which is great - but its time to add a little home practice.
So far I am looking at these workbooks: Chinese Made Easy For Kids Book 1
And perusing sites like this one: http://www.word2word.com/coursead.html  - which is nice because it describes which intonation is happening...

Has anyone else been through this? Any recommendations?

I would just like to add to my earlier comments that there are several resources for teaching Chinese at the library - I have now started renting some beginner Mandarin videos for extra exposure to the language.
