Numeracy Games
http://www.ictgames.com/resources.htmlAge Range: 5-10
(Non-readers will need assistance. Very young children may enjoy some of these games that are also great for remedial work.)
This website offers a vast collection of interactive games to help young
children (and beginning mathematicians of all ages) learn and practice basic
math skills. When you get to the site you'll see a brief introduction in the
center screen that is followed by a menu of math "Themes" that include:
*Number Facts
*Money
*Counting
*Addition
*Subtraction
*Time
*Odd and Even
*Shape and Measures
*Place Value
*More and Less
*Multiplication & Rounding
- and more!
Click on any theme and a new page opens with a menu of selections for that
particular math theme or strand. The games are colorful and engaging. Some
lack sufficient explanation on how to play - so you'll need to experiment a
little until you figure it out. (I've found children are often better at
intuiting how to play these kinds of games than adults. However, because
some basic knowledge of math is required, it may behoove you to put your
brains together to figure it all out.)
If you have trouble finding just the right game, try the menu on the left
side of the screen that says, "Not Sure? Then Eric recommends..." The games
listed here are the most popular and easy to navigate.
Enjoy!
