Hi I just saw your post. I am guessing that you are the Alex that we have met at Pokemon (well, you are not Alex, but you know what I mean). This is Parker's mom. I must tell you that when you first came to Pokemon I thought to myself that Alex seemed like a kindred spirit for Parker. I noticed the kind of books that Alex was checking out and chuckled to myself that they looked like something Parker would have an interest in.
Parker is also very intellectual and scientifically oriented. He loves Lego and has recently started building with Knex. He reads constantly (he is actually hyperlexic and taught himself to read at 3). He loves to do things outdoors and got a skateboard for Christmas. He does not much care for animals; I think they scare him a little. Mostly he just ignores them. He frightens more easily than the average kid his age and stresses out in socially demanding situations.
We do not watch movies other than G and PG, but I could not honestly say that he has never seen anything violent as he has seen some of the Star Wars movies. In general, all of my kids have been relatively sheltered from violence and immorality. We do have some light saber toys, but my kids do not really play games where they pretend to hurt each other. We do have a big family, with a lot of boys, so there is some rough housing. Mostly, Parker likes to do creative things like Lego.
I would be very interested in seeing if the two hit it off, as Parker often does not relate that well to most boys his age because his interests are different. He can go on and on about some esoteric subject like who really invented the light bulb. He got a really cool Pokemon game for Christmas (kind of like a board game, only not!!) Right after Pokemon club, we have to fly because my daughter has voice lessons on Tuesday. But we could probably meet you at the library before hand and Parker could bring his game. They have some rooms that they could play in. Or we are up for other activities. Another thing that Parker loves is doing the Junior Ranger programs at the National Parks and we have not done the one at Petrogylph yet. Maybe when the weather warms up?
