Hi all!!
I came on here in November asking advice about homeschooling. I think I made a mistake when I registered with the state online. I registered my son way back in October but as of now he is STILL in school. I had not convinced my husband of homeschooling and jumped the gun way ahead of time when I registered. Now we have all his curriculum, HSLD membership (so nervous about the state coming after us) we are ready to take our son out. We have our confirmation number and understand that all we need to do is provide that number to the principle when we pull him out of school. Is this correct? His principle is kind of scary.

Since I registered online so long ago (october) will I need to re-register? I didn't really realize what I was filling out. Just kind of looking at the process and the idea of homeschooling at the time.

thanks, ladies!

Melissa,
When I took my daughter out of public school in September, allI did was go into the school and asked to disenroll her.  Then on the  form I wrote that she would be homeschooled.  They did not ask for any proof that I had notified the state about establishing a homeschool.  I hope that helps.

Have you called HSLDA and asked?  We have called/emailed them several times (we have lived in 3 states in the last year) this year and they are great about getting back to you quickly.  I would call them first.  It sounds like you just need to tell the school and disenroll, but HSLDA is there for a reason...might as well use their knowledge!!  Good Luck!

Hi ladies!!
I just got off the phone with Lorianne from NMPED and she looked up our registration number to make sure we registered okay and said it was okay to take him out. no problems. I'm so excited!! I can't wait to get started but I'm scared too!! Hope I won't fail the little guy. One day at a time I guess.

Thanks ladies!! Be safe for Christmas!!

I just wanted to throw something out there.
I have met so many people who have been made fearful by their child's school and some were told they CAN'T homeschool!! What I did was told the school I was disenrolling (this was a while back but I was never questioned at all) and that my child was going to be privately schooled. It was in no way a lie, but it eliminated any bullying I might have faced from them. I have told others to use this approach and it seems to work well. I don't understand why they have to be so mean and stiff nosed about wanting to take your kids out and homeschool them. Its almost like they take it personally..
