THE UNM CHILDREN’S CHORUS
January 1, 2009

Dear Prospective Chorus Member,

I am inviting you to join the UNM Children’s Chorus- a Non-Auditioned Children’s Chorus serving children grades K-8 in the Albuquerque Metro Area. Our chorus is a once a week music program for children focusing vocal music and choral singing.

This semester our rehearsals begin on Wednesday January 21th at St. Paul Lutheran at 1100 Indian School NE. We will welcome new members during the first two rehearsals of the season.  Times for rehearsal are as follows:

Primary Chorus           Grades K and 1                4:30 – 5:30
Intermediate Chorus           Grades 2, 3, 4* and 5*          4:30 – 5:30
Senior Chorus           Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8           5:45 – 7:00

You may register now by calling the UNM Music Prep School at 277-8816. Dues are 100.00 per child per semester (discounts given for families). Thanks to a number of generous donations, we are able to offer a limited number of part and full tuition waivers this semester. NEW THIS SEMESTER:
Our first two rehearsals this semester will be open to new members. We’d like you to invite your friends to these rehearsals.  Attached you will find 2 invitations – we hope you’ll share these with friends who might be interested in joining us.  They can come to the first two rehearsals to see if they’d like to sing with us.

OTHER INFOMRATION:
•     the Intermediate Chorus now includes the 2nd graders.  No audition is necessary. Any 2nd grader who wishes to stay in the Primary Chorus is welcome to do so.  

•     the Senior Chorus is open to 4th and 5th grade singers who wish to audition to sing more advanced music. Singers in 6th, 7th and 8th grade do not have to audition.

•     AUDITIONS for the Senior Chorus (for 4th and 5th graders) will take place on Wednesday January 14th from 4:00-6:00 PM at UNM CFA (Popejoy) room 1109. Email me at rcarlow@unm.edu to reserve an audition time. The audition will consist of singing a song (of your choice) without accompaniment  - and simple scales, and preliminary music reading skills, such as echo singing, clapping simple patterns and simple two-part singing.

REHEARSAL & CONCERT SCHEDULE FOR UNM CHILDREN’S CHORUS 2009:
Here is our tentative schedule for rehearsals. The Senior Chorus is occasionally invited to perform in the community for various events. When these performances opportunities arise, parents will be given ample notice in writing.

CONCERT OUTFITS:
Primary and Intermediate Choruses      Long sleeve white shirt or blouse, black pants or skirt (skirts should be knee length or longer) dark stockings, black socks, black shoes/

Senior Chorus      Long sleeve black blouse or top. Black pants or skirt. (skirt, knee length)
