Recommended Website:             Science Friday

http://www.sciencefriday.com/

Age Range: 11 and up (Some portions designed specifically for
grades 6-8, with parental guidance and supervision.)

Years ago ClickSchooling featured "Science Friday" but the
link disappeared from the web, and we had to remove the review
from our archives. Well, "Science Friday" is back - and well
worth another visit! The Science Friday website is a
companion to the weekly science talk show, broadcast on PBS.
Each week, the host Ira Flatow, a science journalist,
moderates a panel discussion among expert guests on science
topics that are in the news such as:

*Animation Goes High Tech With 3-D

*Hazardous Junk Piling Up In Space

*Nanoelectronics Modeled On Etch-A-Sketch Toy

*Inspiring Girls To Engineer America's Future

*Surgical Advance Makes A Better Bionic Arm

Most of the content here is free. You can listen to the
programs on the net, or download and listen to archived shows
in MP3 files. But that's not all...

Use the menu at the top of the page to:

*Read current science news stories online punctuated with
terrific photos.

*Check out some free science videos through "Improbable TV" -
a web-based series of three-minute-long videos about research
that "makes people laugh, then makes them think."

*Access Kids' Connection - A website for teachers of middle
school students that provides "a summary of the radio program,
discussion ideas, activities, links to the audio, selected
resources, and related science standards."

There is a lot of rich content archived at this site that can
be used to explore science topics in depth - or simply to
spark conversations to peak interest in science.

As always, we recommend that parents preview this site to
determine if the content is suitable for their own children.
