Hello Everyone! We live in Rio Rancho. I have a 7 yr. old daughter, 3 yr. old son, and 11mo. old son. My Daughter went through the RR public school system for Kinder and 1st grade. She had a difficult time socially because she is sensitive, and empathtic, and couldnt cope well when children would act inappropriately.(Which of course happened daily) She is well behaved and kind hearted and public school can be rough on some little ones. In my opinion there was a lack of family values and morals in her classrooms. Has anyone else felt this way? I am intererested in what made you all decide to homeschool? Academically she was at the top end of her class but I know she could have learned so much more if the classroom was structured differently. So, she will be a 2nd grader and I am looking for recommendations for complete curriclum packages, useful websites, etc.. to get me prepared to take on her education myself. I would also like to start homeschool preschool for my oldest Son who will be 4 next month. We are interested in making new homeschool friends and doing some fun activities this summer. So, I am looking forward to hearing from you all. Thank you for your help! MomOf3
We live in Rio Rancho too and we are always looking to get together with fello homeschoolers....I have 3 girls, 8,4,20month old....we live up by rainbow pool....
What school did your daughter go too?
Im planning my next year out if your interested in seeing what I have just let me know....
We are in RR too. We had talked about getting our Haynes park day started back up again. I will look into that- it would be a good way for us Rio Ranchers to get together
Hi there! I have a 4-year-old son and we live in Rio Rancho (technically Alb, but right on the edge). My son is also in need of some buddies since he doesn't have many and could use some social skills. He is so darn sensitive that preschool was a ginormous flop and he is often scared by children. I feel much like you with how some of the kids are these days. My son is very sweet and does not always understand some of these kids. Frankly sometimes I have heard things said by preschoolers that shocked my socks off! I would absolutely love to get him involved with children like the ones I read about here.
I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but do we have a Rio Rancho park day? I have been wanting to get to the Westside park day for months now but seems we always miss it or wander more around these parts.
My husband and I are really contemplating homeschool for PreK (and beyond), so I would also love to hear what others are doing next year. As far as suggestions for your son, we had been recommended Sonlight Curriculum from others here and did their P3/4 for preschool this year which was just to test the ropes, but we loved this curriculum, just FYI. If we do continue for next year we will probably use this curriculum again.
I don't think I know of Cabezon... Or is that where the sports complex is on High Resort? A great one also is the Riverside (I think) park in Rivers Edge. It is a bit further out but it is a pretty good one, too, if anyone lives further north. I wonder about how many of us are out here? You could certainly count us in, if and when this begins!
Cabezon is right on unser before you enter Ablq. Its close to Walmart.I think they have bathrooms too.Not sure.High resort?I have never been up in that area but what about haines it seems more of a central meeting point? They have a big open field for ball game stuff and they have swings and bathrooms! That is a plus for us,I hate it when my kids just get there and have to go.
Could we get a group pass for the pool?I LOVE the corrales pool, not so stressful and the playground in the middle my kids love!
What days are good for the park for everyone?I dont want it to be on the same days as the others cause I would like to go to the westside one when I can.So would Wed at 10 be good?
I could bring water balloons and we could sick the kids on each other!
We have yet to get to our first park day, but we can't wait to start. We would have gone to westside park day today but we had an appointment. I know once we get to our first one we will try to make it to both as well, Westside and Rio Rancho, so I think Wednesday would be great. Hope nobody minds Noah (my 4-year-old) and I poking in.
I had no idea Cabezon existed! We pretty much live a minute away! Thanks for mentioning... my son loves exploring new parks and this should be perfect, location and all!
Momof3, would you be interested in the RR park day, too? Sounds like your 3-year-old would be great for my 4-year-old. And cdally, you said you have a 4-year-old daughter? I would love to meet everyone.
Thank you for all the replies! I think a RR park day would be great! My kids would love it. I'm going to try to make it over to the westside park day as well, but we live in northern meadows so it's a little bit of a drive for us.
Cdally: My DD went to Colinas for Kinder and Cielo for 1st grade. We have family that live near rainbow pool. DD took swimming lessons there last year. This year both kids want to take lessons there.
Ivyanne: Thank you for the Sonlight curriculum recommendation, I will look into it for my 3 turning 4 yr. old. It sounds like our boys would have a great time at the park!
I wonder how many homeschoolers there are here in RR? I look forward to meeting you all
I also live in Northern Meadows. I was hoping there were other homeschoolers in my area. I have 5 kids, 9,7,5,4,2. 4 boys and 1 girl. My daughter is the same age is yours. They also attended Colinas and Cielo Azul. We would love to get together with other homeschooler in our area.
I would love to have a park day in Rio Rancho. Another park you might want to consider is the Star Heights Park & learning center, behind Blakes Lotaberger and Walmart in Unser. I spoke to the community center facilitator and she said the foosball & pool table & some of the stuff at the community center are available to use. It has a skate park, basketball court, volleyball court, open field baseball & football, play structures, a gazebo, grassy area, some shades and a bike path plus the bathroom inside the community center. If you borrowed books from Rio Rancho library, you can return it here when they open M-F from 3-5 p.m. except Wednesdays from 12-5 p.m. It's way out of the busy road. It's usually quiet there in the morning. But there is an after school program in the afternoon. It wouldn't affect us, anyway if you we go in the morning.
Cabezon park does not have its own restrooms but the community center next to it has one and will not be open again till summer break. Haynes Park is nice & huge but the basketball court is on the other side of the play structures. Rainbow park is nice but their is no accessible restroom for now until the pool open in summer break. The last time we went to the River's Edge Park, it didn't have any restroom. Zaragoza park is not but didn't have a restroom either but McDonald's is about 3 blocks away. Whatever the majority decides, we'll try to be there if we can.
That sounds like a great ongoing park date to me, however my daughter is still in school next week so I couldnt make it this coming Wed. (they get out of school at 12:00) but I could be there the following Wed. if thats where/when everyone wants to go
Noah (4-1/2) and I can be there. We have an appt @ 11:00 but it is right there on Unser so it should work out great. We can be there next Wednesday or we can wait until the following Wednesday, too.
I am hoping to drop by Westside Park Day next Tuesday for the first time as well. I just can't wait to meet everybody. I have been meaning to get out and meet everyone for so long now! Yay for summer!
I realized the public discussion board is not the right place to discuss time, day & location for a park day. Anybody (including sexual offender) might want to show up there. Also, ithe Star Heights park might be busy during summer break. They have programs for kids during summer break. During school is very nice out there.
Hi fellow Rio Ranchers. I am new to the idea of homeschooling and plan to begin next fall. I have a 7 year old who will be in second and a 3 year old who will be Pre Pre K. We are a pretty interesting gang and the boys are always good for a laugh or at the very least a horrified scream I would love to get together with some other homeschoolers in the area and make some good friends to fill the long days with. (This sounds a bit like an online dating ad)... we enjoy cold popcicles while watching the sun set over the monkey bars...
Well if you havent read we are trying to get the Rio Rancho Park Days off the ground....Any takers...I was volunteering myself and kids to meet and greet new homeschoolers so if your interested in attending a park day Pm me and I will get a time and date nailed down.....please make your suggestions on time and which park you like.
We will be at Haynes tomorrow at 10 if anyone would like to join us! We are hard to miss... the boys are adorable, blonde and will be running 83 miles an hour. I am tall blonde and have bags under my eyes to reach my knees. Hope to meet y'all there!
