Hi everybody!

We just moved to Albuquerque (from NY), and we love it here!  We live on the west side (near RR but not actually in RR).

My 11 yo daughter is shy and sensitive, and has a hard time "breaking in" to larger groups like park play days.  She hangs back because she's too shy to approach the other kids.  Are there any "play dates" or gatherings of kids that might be a little less intimidating?

Any ideas would be great!

Thanks,

Shelly (Justin and Rebecca)

Hey Shelly!  Welcome to the area!    There are quite a few of us who meet across from Intel on Tuesdays, including several 11ish year old girls.  They usually go off on their own and chat about books and TV during this time so your daughter may feel okay with that.  They are all very sweet girls!  If you are interested, I can send you some more info in a PM.

Hi, Shelly!

It was very nice to meet Justin today at the park.  Let me just say Congratulations on your decision to homeschool! I'm sure that if she keeps coming to park days, someone will approach her and she'll make friends.  Maybe you could post a message on the boards to see if any parents of older kids would like to meet somewhere for an activity. I would like to point out, though, that this is the public portion of the boards, so if you do post a messge asking for a get together, then please keep personal information (such as phone numbers) and locations/time out of the post.  You can always exchange that information via our private message function.

I look forward to meeting you sometime soon

Hi Shelly,

Welcome, I too have an 11 year old daughter.  It would be nice to meet you and your children on a private basis.  I have several moms that get together every once in a while, depending on when we can meet, to have private playdays at each others homes.  It is something that works out well for all of us and the girls enjoy meeting one another.  I rarely make it to the park as my daughter finds that it is pretty much male dominant and they already have their friends established.  If you are interested in expanding your friendship with us please email me      quetito@q.com     We would very much like to meet you.

I am interested in finding a park day for an 11 year old home schooled boy.  He has difficulty with speech - brain retrieval. He is fairly good at sports.  Are there any park days or play days available on the West side?  The family lives in Taylor Ranch. I am a minister with the Church of the New World and told the mom and dad I would look into finding a park group or just one or two children for him to socialize and play with. Pleasel et me know what is available. Renita@ChurchoftheNewWorld.org
