Five tracks of arts disciplines are available to young artists of middle and high school age.
Dance: Join us for a week of intensive mastery dance training with superb teachers in ballet, modern, and jazz. The day will start with an 1:45 minute ballet class taught by the fabulous Christine Spizzo from North Carolina School for the Arts followed by local artists Curtis Uhlemann in modern and Tim Santos in jazz.
Theatre: This week will provide a wealth of techniques for the young and aspiring theatre artist. Each day promises an exciting variety of studies in acting, vocal technique, movement classes, and creative writing opportunities. The serious performer in today’s theatre world needs to be skilled in many aspects. This intensive will be a fun and in depth exposure for young artists of all levels to those elements that can lead to success in the future. Appropriate for students of all stages of experience – beginner to advanced.
Visual Arts: Painting is about the ideas and the images you create. To realize these ideas an artist need to have a good understanding of the basic theory of painting. The history of painting can be broken down into two types of painting, one that utilizes space that looks flat and another that looks 3 dimensional. The painting intensive will explore the underpinnings of how to create these two types of paintings using an interesting range of subjects from animation to self-portrait. Appropriate for students of all stages of experience – beginner to advanced.
Film: Participants will learn about the filmmaking process from start to finish and produce a short video project in this week long film intensive. They will be working with film professionals in workshops on acting for the camera, cinematography, screenwriting, editing and distribution in the process of developing, shooting and editing a group video project. Faculty include filmmaker and media artist, Deborah Fort, cinematographer, Liza Bambenek, acting coach, Wendy Chapin, and film festival director Stephen Rubin. Appropriate for students of all stages of experience – beginner to advanced.
Music: A fun-filled week will provide young musicians with training in many areas. In addition to private coaching on their instruments and ensemble classes participants will have classes in chorus, music theory, improvisation, ear training, and music history. Professional musicians will comprise the faculty. Appropriate for students of all stages of experience – beginner to advanced.
