B.L.M.'s El Malpais National Conservation Area (NCA) offers curriculum based programs to kindergarten through college students for the 2009/2010 school year.
You and your students are together outdoors seeing first hand the natural processes described in the texbook. Imagine the excitement of appreciating the volcanos erupting, and the wonder of standing with one foot on a Jurassic desert dune and with the other on a Cretaceous shore with 50 million years of missing sediment in between.
Our programs are crafted to inspire students to truly see and to appreciate the science in nature from the adaptations of plants to those of the ancestral peoples. And for the abstract thinkers we'll delve into the modern peoples' adaptations too. Whether it's a kindergarten scavenger hunt for local life or a college ornithology outing, each class enjoys a personally tailored program fine tuned with your curriculum.
Come enjoy our educator-rangers' outdoor programs alligned with the New Mexico State Science Standards. Schools within a 90 mile radius of Grants can ask about an in-classroom program too.
Program duration runs from 20 minutes to all day. Available times and days are limited, so apply now for best choices.
