Hi everyone- My husband and I are starting homeschooling next week. Our son is in 7th grade. Anyone else out there with this age child? Also we are homeschooling in the late afternoon/evening, anyone else? Our son has been at APS but we are tired of teachers who don't care. I'm scared and excited and worried! -Alicia |

Hi Alicia, Welcome to Homeschooling. It's truly not a destination, but a long and interesting journey. Everyone is worried in the beginning, but as you get comfortable, everything just seems to fall into place and homeschooling finally starts to feel as comfortable as a great pair of jammies. My twin sons are '7th graders', but we typically homeschool during the day. Homeschooling is very flexible, so whatever works for each particular family is a good fit and is just fine. What area do you live? Maybe we'll see you around sometime. We live in the East Mountains, in Tijeras, but we do come into Albuquerque to attend field trips, the museums, Bio Park, etc. |

Thanks for the encouragement. We live far NE Heights and would love to meet up. Hopefully I will take some days off and afternoons here and there. Our field trips might be weekends. I'm so happy to hear someone out there with the same age! Yay! |

Hi Alicia,
Welcome! I'm sure you'll find others who share your interests and have a lot of fun. My daughter is 11 yo (6th grade), and we also do much of our HS during the late afternoon/evenings. I don;t think there is a "traditional" route to homeschool, that's what makes it such a great fit for so many families.

Hello Alicia,
We are new to homeschooling also. We started half year last year. This year we went with the Calvert program. I am really happy with it. Oh ya, my son is 7th grade and my daughter is 5th grade. We do morning and afternoon, due to all their sports. We live in the NE heights. Hopefully we can find time to get together!

Hello!
I was a new mom to home school last year and, while it can feel a bit daunting, it is worth every moment! My son is in 7th and my daughter in 5th and we do Switched-on-Schoolhouse. It is a great curriculum for newbies because it does all the work.
