The "Inkle" loom is a modern day device used to produce an historically accurate Medieval woven trim, or "inkle". To quote from Shakespeare . . . “He hath ribbons of all the colours of the rainbow; inkles, caddises, cambricks, and lawns.”—Shakespeare: Winter’s Tale, iv. 3. Medieval Living, a non-profit educational organization here in New Mexico, is offering the opportunity for homeschoolers to learn the basics of inkle weaving beginning in March this year. We do not have a specific venue for conducting these classes . . . we are willing to travel to communities around the state to provide these classes, and we will coordinate with interested groups on dates and locations. In order to do this, we need some advance notice so that we can plan accordingly. Group sizes are flexible, but between 6 and 10 is ideal. We will provide practice looms and enough materials for each student to produce an "inkle" about 24 inches long by 1 inch wide. Classes will last about 2 hours for introductory lessons; if any group wants to take a more in-depth look at inkle weaving, we will address that on a case-by-case basis . . . but it is very "do-able". Curriculum is coordinated with national education standards for the visual arts. Cost is $10 per student.
