!Bienvenidos! (Welcome!) Albuquerque has lots to offer, but to "plug in" it might be helpful to know what you're son is into? Hiking? Gaming? Sports? Chess? Snowboarding? Graphic novels? Drama? Horses? Politics? We seem to have something for everyone, but not everyone is into the same somethings. This seems particularly true for the teens. Many of our 16yos can also do concurrent enrollment with CNM, but so far, we still have to pay for tuition. There's a teen tennis class just starting up and I think there's a hs high school robotics class/club in Rio Rancho (anyone have info on that?). There are classes like math and art within this group, but few 16yos, frankly. My teen comes to park day occasionally, but is more active with the field trips and classes, which are indeed awesome. She's also a part of Abq Homeschool High (a Yahoo group), CAP (civil air patrol), the Gavel Club (homeschool Toastmasters), and her other classes. Our boy wasn't nearly as busy when he was this age, but it's her choice and I suppose meeting their individual needs and interests is one of the greatest advantages of homeschooling. Some of her friends are into the theater, performing in plays around town, or into swim teams or other sports (there are several homeschool sports teams), so again it's probably a little easier to narrow in on his interests than trying to explore all-things-homeschooling in this town! Have fun settling in, and welcome to our wacky weather. (Don't like it? Just wait a few minutes...it'll change.) 'Look forward to hearing more details and meeting y'all at one event or another! -Chris |
