Beginning July 1st, all Maple Street Dance Space classes will be held in our new bigger, brighter space, at 3215 Central SE, right in the heart of Nob Hill! With two entrances, we will be dancing, shimmying, drumming, singing, and laughing, in the big, bright, open, high ceilinged, back room of Peacecraft!
Peacecraft is located on the North side of Central, right next to Urban Outfitters, and across from Kelly's. For those of you not familiar with Nob Hill, it is a few blocks WEST of Carlisle, and a few blocks EAST of UNM.
I am so excited!!! The space has wood floors, built on top of a basement, not concrete, so it is sprung! No more stepping on and off the dance floor! It has a changing room and a bathroom with a toilet that works! It has a big window on the north side, that opens for ventilation, along with ceiling fans and skylights! It also has track lighting, not long florescents.
We can enter from either the street, which allows a very pleasant walk through Peacecraft, with its vibrant and colorful displays, or we can enter from the alley, which has a clean dock area that will have planters filled with flowers and a bench or two to sit on. It is so delightful!
Now, parking we will have to get used to... It is FREE all along the side streets. The streets that run North South tend to be fuller than those that run East West, so look for parking along Perdue and Campus.
Everyone is invited to swing by Peacecraft, anytime, to check out our new space! Just go in, say hello, let them know you are a Maple Street dancer, and would like to take a peak at our new dance studio!!! Please keep in mind that they are in the process of clearing the space out for us, and there may be some clutter! Also, I would like to paint the space, so imagine a bright happy shade of yellow on the walls, with mirrors on the East wall, and eventually a big pink lotus flower on the West wall.
Which brings me to my wish list...
If you have any interest in helping with painting or moving please let me know! I am planning on moving the last week of June. I'd be happy to trade a dance class or two, if you have the time!
I am also looking for these items:
MIRRORS! (I think one of the mirrors are removable, but the other two are glued firmly to the wall.)
cubicle shelves
rugs
benches
bulletin boards (BIG ones)
black folding chairs with cushioned seats
Also, if you have ever thought about becoming a "Friend of Maple Street" now would be a great time to do it! It is $10 for a month, and gives you $1 off all classes in the studio, for that month. If you buy 3 at once you also receive a free soak at Betty's Bath. Money generated will go directly toward the beautification and functionality of the new space!
Finally, with the move, which I feel is a transformation, an ascension even, as in an evolution to a higher state of Being, comes a new name: "Peace St. Dance Space" It holds significant meaning for our community: who we are and what we dance for, and it directs our attention to the new location, while keeping a rhythmical feel for the old name.
Meanwhile, we will all be actively involved with a giant and very meaningful service! Our move next to Peacecraft will directly support their ability to continue all their fair trade initiatives, and indirectly support the many, many indigenous arts and crafts cooperatives, all over the world, that Peacecraft works with!!! Our dancing, and drumming, and shimmying will continue to bring us great joy, while rippling out and touching the lives of people we don't even know! How beautiful is THAT!?
THANK YOU so much for your time, your Love and your support! I am so blessed to be a part of such a beautiful community, filled with such Light and Joy! If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, feel free to contact me, anytime! I would love to hear from you! 366-4982. (Teachers, if you feel inclined, please forward this email to your lists!)
Sincerely, and with Much Love,Romy
