If you are interested in composting, I wanted to let you know about the Master Composter training that will be held this March here in Albuquerque. Master Composters, once they have completed the training, volunteer 10 hours each year, teaching others about composting. (If you simply want to learn a great deal about composting, without doing the volunteer work, you are still welcome to take the training if space is available.)
Did you know that when organic waste is buried in the landfill, it decomposes anaerobically and generates methane gas, a highly potent greenhouse gas? When organic waste is composted, it doesn't fill up our landfill and it doesn't generate methane. Of course, compost is an extremely beneficial soil amendment for our gardens and yards. And, composting is fun and easy! What could be a better way to recycle? The Master Composter organization wants to spread the word about the benefits of composting.
