The PE department at UNM is willing to provide us with an 14-wk PE class for homeschoolers again this fall. It has been a wonderful success over the years!
Is this really our 6th year?!! Class Description
PE class for homeschoolers in conjunction with the physical education department at the University of New Mexico. Under the supervision of the instructor, student teachers who are majoring in PE work with the children in small, age appropriate groups. The curriculum covers the fundamental movements of Locomotion, Non-locomotion, Manipulation and the application of movement concepts of Space, Effort and Relationships to those skill themes. The activities are developmentally appropriate for the skill level of the children in each group.
Please note slight time change mid semester!
Classes will begin the Thursday, September 9th at 9am
. This class is held on Thursday mornings. For the months of September and October, the class will run from 9 - 9:30 am. Then, starting sometime in November, the class time will switch to 8:40 - 9:10 am as in previous years. This is to accommodate the fact that the children will be working with 2 different sets (classes) of PE student instructors, changing mid-semester.
The class is held on campus at Johnson Center (across from Popejoy Hall off Central). It's a 14 week class that will run on Thursday mornings, September through December, not including UNM Fall Break and Thanksgiving break. I will post the dates of these two breaks when available.
There is no charge for this class; however, there is a charge for parking on campus. I believe that parking still costs $1.25 for one hour and is adjacent and convenient to class location.
For kids ages 4-12 year olds. This class is open to homeschoolers. To Register
, please email Sharon (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your child's name and age. There are 2 forms that you will need to bring with you on the first day of class, one is a consent form and one is a photo release form. I will email these to you once you contact me. (Please feel free to forward this to anyone whom you feel may be interested).
