Five Minute Club
A Forum for Speech Competition
Nancy Lauser, Instructor


Class description:
Students will practice speeches and exercises that strengthen their speaking skills, specifically to prepare for competition.
They will receive feedback from each other in addition to the feedback from the instructor.
Atmosphere is relaxed, positive, and encouraging, but don’t expect to be allowed to slack off!
Students will write and practice speeches for whatever contest they choose.
Contests include, but are not limited to: Christian Heritage Speech Contest, Fine Arts,
                                                         American Legion, Stoa, National Forensics League, and Optimists Oratory Contest.

Prerequisites:   Student must have taken a public speaking class, Toastmasters, or placed 1-3 in a speech competition.
                      If no prior experience, concurrent enrollment in Say It With Class is required.


Dates: September 14-December 14
Time: 11:30am-2:30pm
Location: Netherwood Church of Christ  (corner of San Mateo/Indian School)

About the instructor: Nancy Lauser (rhymes with saucer) has coached homeschool students in competitive speech and debate for nine years.
Over 80% of her students of her students place in the top four places at the state level.
She has coached students in Christian Heritage, Fine Arts, NCFCA, Stoa, and American Legion competitions.
In addition to teaching and coaching speaking skills, she currently belongs to Toastmasters International to continue work on improving her own skills, where she has achieved the Advanced Silver level.
She has given workshops at CAPE conventions and various homeschool and church groups.  
Nancy and her husband have two young adult sons who were homeschooled their entire school careers,
and both parents lived to tell about it!
