NM START
Christian Homeschool Speech & Debate Team
Beginning our 4th year coaching and competing
in Christian Homeschool Forensic Leagues
for ABQ and East Mountains.

Informational Meeting:  July 29, 2011, 3-5pm  in NE Albuquerque

Club Summary information:
Primary members:  Christian, Bible-believing, Home Educated students ages 12-18.
Younger Siblings are welcome with parental supervision.

Goal: to develop speakers who can impact the world for Christ with clear, accurate, bold communication
and leadership that honors God while addressing life issues from a Biblical worldview.

Club verse 1:  1 Peter 3:15-17  sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame. For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.

Meetings: Weekly late afternoon/evening beginning in early August in NE ABQ.
Cost: Low Club dues for the year. Competition & material expenses vary. ( Fund-raising opportunities)
Speaking opportunities: weekly club meetings, tournaments, contests, community service
Skill Focus:  Winsome speech—all events possible: Apologetics, Impromptu, Extemp, Interps, Platform
Persuasive debate—2 styles of debate available, including Lincoln Douglas debate

Why participate in speech and debate?
Communications skills are critical in life.
Worldview matters and we each need to be able to communicate it.
Academic excellence. Consider this:  http://www.nflonline.org/uploads/AboutNFL/standards2.pdf
Fun!

Why Compete?
Competition improves communication skills fast!  Leadership skills develop.
Provides speaking and feedback opportunities as well as exposure to various audiences.
It all adds up to stronger, more developed speaking and thinking skills.
Develop nationwide friendships and contacts.
Fun!  (really, it is!)

New to Competitive Speech and Debate?
Good news!  Check-it-Out Introductory workshops are being planned.  Watch for announcements.
