Hello everyone, I have two boys ages 6 & 4, we just started homeschooling last year while my son was in kindergarten. I love doing it, but he really wants the social interaction. So we are excited about meeting up with other homeschooled children and parents.

We are also new to homeschooling and we have a 6 yr old, 4 yr old and baby- all girls.  I know my oldest needs the social interaction.  I have heard that there are park days on Thurs but was wondering about co-ops.  I have heard of a few and if you have any more info I would love to hear!  Thanks!!

Welcome to all the new people!

This website has two separate portions: public and private co-op. Right now, all of you can see the public boards and just the park day on the calendar. This public part is a wonderful resource for anyone who is considering homeschooling.

The private Co-op boards are much more active, with trips, parties, some classes, etc. We do tend to be much more of a social organization with less emphasis on academics. We've found that our members all have their own system, style or curriculum for their homeschooling, so when we do come together for a class, it tends to me something more like art. That said, all members, whether new or veteran, have the freedom to plan or organize classes or trips. For example, we currently have an ongoing art class as well as an ongoing lego club. We also have a group of mothers who have started a co-op tea club.

One of the great things about homeschooling in the Albuquerque area is that there are a lot of homeschoolers and odds are good that you'll be able to find a co-op to suit your needs and style.

If you would like to join Albuquerque Homeschool Co-op, you must come to a park day (we currently meet at 10am every Thursday at Loma Del Norte Park). Once you've come to parkday and created a username for yourself, you're welcome to join the Co-op. Once you're a member, you'll have access to all the private boards as well as our calendar.

Please take some time look through our rules; I'm sure they'll help you decide whether Albuquerque Homeschool Co-op is a good fit for you: http://www.abqhomeschool.com/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?b-JN/m-1283805956/

Happy homeschooing!

Hello! This is a wonderful forum. We are a homeschool family to our 4 year old daughter.  We are exploring different homeschool methods and curricula and hope to meet others doing the same. Also, we'd love to meet with the groups that have been doing this for a while. I have researched alot on this, and been unofficially homeschooling with a few other familes participating in programs all over Abq. with programs at the Biopark, zoo, aquarium as well as at-home academics get-togethers. I want to expand my interaction with the Abq. community of homeschool families with kids of all ages, as well as smaller groups with pre-school aged kids.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Barbara
