My husband is  transferring to ABQ and I have no clue where to begin looking for a house  or the prices of houses in the area.  Can you recommend neighborhoods?  Husband will be working near I25 and I40 junction.  I have homeschooled for 4 years.  I have a  DD8, DS7 and DS5.  Husband is wanting me to reconsider Public school when we move.  Can you give me the low down on the public school in ABQ.

I need  local advice and have always found the best help in my homeschool community.

Thanks
Terri

Hi Terri and welcome to Albuquerque.

I homeschool my grandchildren, but I put 4 sons through APS and the day I left APS was one of the happiest of my life!!    I would suggest staying with your homeschooling.   : )   I sure wish I had known about it when my boys were in school.    ABQ is very homeschool friendly and there are tons of activities for the children.

We live in the far northeast heights and love it here.

Hi Terri!

I have an almost 8 year old ds who is home-educated.  Like Mindy mentioned, ABQ is VERY homeschool friendly. I would suggest "doing your homework" (no pun intended!) about APS schools. I know the so-called report cards were recently released.  I wasn't impressed at all by what I saw.  Then I learned that the schools were graded on a Curve! An 'A' rated school that I looked at actually achieved around 70+% or so on the criteria on which they were graded.  It sounds like your husband's job will be very centrally located so many areas would be convenient for living.

I would help with recommending a neighborhood if you told us more about your family.  Do you prefer a new home development or do you like established neighborhoods?  Prefer rural or urban setting?  What are your family's hobbies?

If you are considering putting the kids into school when you move you might want to look at a charter school.  Albuquerque has many to chose from.
