Free NM Philharmonic Concerts & International Community Day September 11, 2012 by Tania Filed under Concerts, Live Performances, Music Leave a Comment Two chances to hear free New Mexico Philharmonic concerts, starting with Bernalillo County’s International Community Day 2012. International Community Day is on Saturday September 15 from 10:30 am – 3:30 pm at Hyder Park. The free multicultural neighborhood event offers a great chance to hear a New Mexico Philharmonic concert at 11:30 am at zero cost to you! They usually play venues like the Popejoy Hall, so it’s lovely that they’re out and about sharing their music with family audiences who may not have so many opportunities to go to formal concerts. At 11:30 am, the NM Philharmonic, conducted by Byron Herrington, will play popular favorites including songs such as O Fair New Mexico, Sousa’s New Mexico March, music from Spider Man and Lord of the Dance, and Aaron Copland’s Hoe Down. The Music Guild of New Mexico will also be there with their musical instruments petting zoo, and the day includes performances of East Indian dance and Filipino dancers, a Wings of Enchantment butterfly exhibit, kids’ crafts and games, and local food vendors. See the full Bernalillo County International Community Day schedule. Hyder Park is located at 700 Richmond SE, just southwest of Bandelier Elementary School. New Mexico Philharmonic will also perform a free concert on Thursday September 20 at 7 pm at Vista Grande Community Center in Sandia Park. They’ll be playing a similar repertoire of popular music as described in the Community Day above. Find a map here to the posh new Vista Grade Community Center, at 15 La Madera Road, Sandia Park, off the Turquoise Trail, NM Highway 14. –Tania
