Hi Everyone! My family just moved here in October and I enrolled my daughter in school. She is 5 and in kindergarten this year. I have always had the thought of homeschooling but never went through with it because I don't know where to start. With the recent tragic events on Friday i am just terrified to send my daughter back to school. I am here just finding out what homeschooling would involve and if its something that would work for our family. Are there online courses? are there books you buy? Pages you print out? How do you know what she should be learning at each grade? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When we started homeschooling a friend recommended the book "Home Learning Year by Year" by Rebecca Rupp. You can check it out at the library or find it pretty cheap on Amazon. It goes through each grade and gives info on every subject with recommendations for books and other resources to use.

As I came to find out, there are lots of ways to homeschool. I suggest doing some research and finding what works for you and your daughter. Being fluid and changing as necessary. There are a lot of books about homeschooling at the library. I read a ton when we were trying to make the decision and I got a little overwhelmed. But I also learned a lot.

I have a 6 year old daughter and an almost 4 year old son. We could get together for a play date or a park day if you'd like to chat more.

Good luck!

Another great set of books for general guidelines that are not very expensive and easy to find used and at the library are the "What your ________________________ (kindergartner, first grader, etc) needs to know".  These might just give you a jumping off place.
Lots of support available here.

Ok I am not in the ABQ area but I need to begin homeschooling my grandson. I am in Artesia my gandson and daughter live in Jal NM. Can my daughter notify she is starting home school and list me as an instructor and have him stay with me or her depending on my schedule without going through teh court and making me a legal guardian. I know the state allows a craegiver certificate for registering a gandchild in schoool and make medical decisions-I just really dont want to go through teh court system
Hope someone can answer
Good luck everyone
