Hi,

I'm new to this board and homeschooling, in general.  I'm not quite sure where to jump in, but here goes.  I've skimmed through the other posts on the board and it looks like there are some interesting things going on.  I'm not sure how active we could be in the group, between afternoon attendance at the Family School 4 days a week, Science Club with the RG Homeschool Group, etc, but I'd like to make some contacts and see where we can fit in.

Thanks.

Hi Deb, nice to meet you! How many kids do you have, and how old are they? Have your kids been in Family School before this year? I'd be interested in hearing how you like that. I understand that the Science Club meets on Monday mornings, which unfortunately conflicts with when our group meets. Maybe we can see you at one of our other events -- once we get organized enough to plan some. Our group is still pretty new.

Hi Elizabeth.  I have 2 kids -- 6.5 and 2 years.  This is our first year in the Family School and I will let you know how it goes.  My son has never been in a full day school (he was in half day kindergarten last year) and we've always done lots of "homeschooling" type things during his non-school hours, so I'm hoping the transition to half classroom/half homeschool won't be too drastic.

Yes, the Science Club meets Mon. mornings from 10 - 12.  Darn those conflicts.  Well, I'll keep my eyes open and see if we can't attend some things that occur on other days.  I like this co-op idea.

Hi Deb,
I was just browsing the board and came across your message.  I would also be very interested in hearing about your experience with the family school.  We have a 4 yr old boy (almost 5) and we've been thinking about the family school as an option for kindergarten.  He is currently in speech therapy and will need another year or so.  It looks like, although I'm not completely sure about this, that he may lose his speech services if we homeschool full time.  The family school looked like a good compromise.  Anyway, I'd love to hear any feedback that you may have regarding your experience.  Thanks so much!
Sincerely,
Sharon (Mother to Dane and Skye)

Sharon, I also have some info on the Family School, as well as a few friends who are planning to go there. As I understand it, you need to start the application process very soon, like NOW, if you want to get Dane into it. It might be a good idea to apply even if you think you might not want to go when the times come. Let me know if you want me to pass along your contact info to my friends who have started the application process. As an aside, I was thinking of speech therapy for Eric and it seems a shame that you can't get it for free through the school system unless you send them to school!

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for your response.  That would be great if you could pass my info along.  Yes, we'd like to apply just to cover all our bases.  Their website lists an info session, but not until the end of January so any information that I could get beofre that would be very much appreciated.  Yes, I agree that it's a shame that he may lose his speech services.  His speech therapist, who is wonderful I might add, thought that it would not continue but she wasn't exactly sure either and I haven't had time to call APS yet.  Thanks again for the info.
My phone number is 281-0298.
