By popular demand -- well, one or two people have asked me -- I've enabled the forum to include pictures and "avatars". If you're so inclined, you can add a picture of yourself or your family to your signature, or an avatar underneath your username to the left of your posts.

Here's how to do it.

To add a picture along with your signature at the bottom of your posts:

Click the member center button in the upper right of the window.
Click the signature link at the left.
In the signature area, add something like this:
[ i m g]http://www.mysite.com/somepicture.jpg [ / i m g ]
(I had to add extra spaces above to make
it print out right, but you should take them out!)
Click the save button.

Note that the picture needs to be hosted on another web site, such as one of the free photo places like shutterfly.

To add an avatar to your posts is even easier:

Click on the member center button in the upper right of the window.
Click the avatar settings link at the left.
Browse through the available avatars, or upload one of your own.
Click the save button.
