Albuquerque Homeschool Forum / Introductions / National Arbor Day

I would like to plan a National Arbor day Celebration with our kids. National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April, this year the 27th. The kids could learn about the history of Arbor day, a short ecology lesson showing how trees help our environment and have a tree planting ceremony. In addition I can get seedlings from the National Arbor Day Society so each child could take a tree home to plant in their own yard. The seedlings are 3.50 each.
Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in, so I can plan it and order the seedlings.

Sounds like an awesome idea!! We'd love to participate, too.
Jeremiah just reminded me that it would be really great if we could read "The Giving Tree" while celebrating Arbor Day. It's one of his favorite books and never fails to touch his heart.
I'd be happy to borrow the book from the library and read it during the celebration, if you think that's a good idea? :)

Shari, This sounds like a great idea!
We will participate if we are able too. I'll have to let you know when it is closer to April. I would like a seedling anyway and if we can't make it maybe one of the other children can plant it for us.
Jeremiah, "The Giving Tree" is a wonderful book and we would love for you to read it.

Jeremiah said he'd be ok with reading "The Giving Tree", but it sometimes makes him cry and he is worried what others might think. He said he'd give it some thought.
Maybe he can read the first half and I could play 'tag-team' and read the ending. Either way, we'd be glad to share this special book about the amazing gift that trees are. :)

Lisa,
I have the book so there is no need to get it from the library. Maybe we can let all the kids that are interested read a part? That way it won't all fall on Jeremiah's shoulders. Regardless of who reads, I think it's a great idea.

Hello,
I would love to particpate in an Arbor Day Celebration. My husband teaches for the Natrual History Museum and he may have some resources that we could use.

Therese,
We welcome all comers!! It's still in the very early stages of planning, but it's nice to know we can use your husband as a resource!

Thank you Shari for planning a fun and very important activity.
We'd like to participate and would like two seedlings.
Looking forward to the details as the date gets closer.
