An example of program descriptions:

The ENCOUNTER Program

Sea Worthy™

The Camp Invention team is on the hunt for new types of sea life, and children are challenged to build boats and underwater vehicles that can find new creatures in the ocean! Children spend the first two days of the camp week discovering how boats float. They then create their own boats to sail the oceans looking for new sea life in the deep. On Day Three, children build underwater vehicles for exploration and invent a way to lower their rovers from their boats. On Days Four and Five, children invent tools that pick up new types of ocean life and build a research lab to house their samples.

Fair Games™

The Camp Invention team has agreed to help design and build new carnival games for Dr. Sam Dabble’s famous traveling carnival! To meet this challenge, children assemble new types of carnival games that demonstrate equivalence, probability, and estimation. Throughout the week, children create a carnival midway worthy of Sam Dabble that features lever launches, Hi Striker games, ball-rolling games, miniature golf holes, and other challenging games made possible only by their imaginations.

The Lost Treasure™

Children must escape the perils of Archaic Island and decipher a note to find the Lost Treasure. World famous treasure hunter Professor Ivana Dig It needs children’s help to uncover the Lost Treasure, a fortune that she has been trying to find for years. Children practice the steps of Creative Problem Solving as they build shelters on Archaic Island, retrieve a piece of an important note found on the far side of an exploding volcano, encounter a friendly island dweller, and cross a booby-trapped passage to recover the treasure!

I Can Invent: Fantasy Inventions & Complicated Machines™

Imaginations run wild as children take part in two different versions of the I Can Invent module. During the first two days, both younger and older children take apart broken household appliances that they’ve brought from home. Younger children continue taking apart on Day Three, while older children begin building complicated machines that will launch a water balloon at a target. On Days Four and Five, younger children build fantasy inventions using the pieces/parts of their take-apart items, as well as other supplies and items from the recycle room. Older children continue using pieces/parts of their take-apart items and other supplies to build their complicated machines. Finally, older children set their multi-step machines in motion to launch their water balloons! All children then display their inventions at the Inventor’s Showcase.

Recess Remix™

Combining physical activity with creative problem solving, the Recess Remix module invites children to participate in fun, energetic games that require teamwork, cooperation, coordination, and inventive thinking. In the Recess Remix module, children use their inventiveness and creativity to modify aspects of familiar games and then play their new versions!
Different from other Camp Invention curriculum modules, Recess Remix allows the instructor to choose the games to play depending on factors such as the age of players, whether games are to be played indoors or outdoors, and whether children are to get wet or stay dry. Each day, children invent and play a different game to demonstrate their creativity and originality!
