Hi Homeschoolers,
I am on the verge of starting to homeschool my 7 year old girl and 3 year old boy.  They are currently 2nd grade and Pre-K at a local christian school and doing very well academicly and socially.  After a wonderful summer with my kids I feel that homeschooling would be a great option for us as we love to travel.  My family is in England and my husband's in NY.  It would be great to see more of our families without the restrictions of school schedules.
I have looked at a lot of curriculums and really like the "Weaver Curriculum".  I was wondering if anyone had used it and could give me any feedback?  
I'm so close to making the leap and taking the kids out of school I just need to hear from some other families about their experiences.

I haven't done the "Weaver Curriculum," but we're very happy homeschooling, and would love to see your guys at park days! If Katherine heard Shea was homeschooling, she'd be so excited!

One of our favorite things about homeschooling is having our schedule to ourselves--traveling in the off-season, going to public places when they're not crowded, and just generally having a great time on our own schedule.

We're largely unschooling, and also do some aspects of Sonlight curriculum.

Hi Kate,

I just started homeschooling my nine year old a month ago.  She was in special education at a public school and in a classroom with nearly thirty other kids.  I figured that even if I was just a mediocre teacher that she'd still gain more from the one on one interaction than any a 30 to one interaction.  So far it's going really well.  We only spend about 15 to 20 minutes on each subject but it's made a big difference.  I use a the abecka books for reading with reading reflex for phonics. I am using singapore math.  For science I have her enrolled in the Explora! homeschool science classes.  I have a generic text book for social studies and language arts.  Good luck with your decision.  I think homeschooling Paris is one of the best things i've ever decided to do and she loves it as well.  We are very happy.  :)  You will be a great teacher no matter what cirriculum you use.

I haven't used Weaver either. We use Sonlight. You are right about how homeschooling allows you to schedule fun things like travel. We often follow my husband on business trips, and we've been able to go places we otherwise would have missed, because we homeschool.

Have you checked out http://www.homeschoolreviews.com ? You can read reviews on many different curriculums that people have used and reviewed. It's really a great way to learn alot more about a program before you decide to buy.

I have been going through the ACE curriculum. I did look at the Weaver curriculum, and the Alpha Omega curriculum. I saw several that were highly recommended, but unfortunately, it came down to what we could do financially. I, personally, went through the ACE paces and I enjoyed them. Although they may not be the best decision for highschool or maybe even mid-school kids, I am so happy with my decision. The girls are doing amazingly well. They are both reading at a second grade level and they are only 4 and 6. I have been really happy. The best thing about homeschooling is that you can be right on top of what they didn't learn and stop everything until they catch on; unlike public school, where if they don't catch on, they just get further and further behind. In addition, I love being such a huge part of their life. All three of my girls get along so well and I really do attribute this to homeschooling. I hope this helps with your decision!
