Hello everyone.

I have been watching this board for a few weeks now but have yet to make it to a park day. I have two daughters 8 & 9 that i started home schooling a little over a month ago. We live in paradise hills.  My daughters are interested in meeting other girls that are homeschooled. One day I hope to make it to park day but I am starting a new job so my schedule is a little crazy right now. I just wanted to pop in and say hello to everyone and introduce myself. I hope to meet you all soon. Thanks.

Hi Elizabeth
My name is Joice and I am also new to homeschooling.  I have one son who is three and one daughter who is nine.  My daughter is also anxious to make new friends.  We live in Bosque Farms.  Is Paradise on the east side or west?  We have made it to two west side park days and one east side park days.

Welcome.

Hi, Joice & Elizabeth!

Paradise Hills is on the west side, isn't it Elizabeth?  Just north of Paseo del Norte and Golf Course or thereabouts?

We just moved to Rio Rancho, but I've been homeschooling for more than a decade.   Jesse, who was our resident teen for many years, is now 21. Lynne is 12 and just starting that phase of "Oh-Lord-Why-Do-We-Homeschool?!!!"  But really, it's been great for us and teens just present some fun challenges no matter how they're getting educated. ;)

Seriously, I hope you both enjoy homeschooling as much as we have!

(I won't meet you at park days 'cause I also need to work-single mom-but maybe we'll catch you at the tennis or other classes!)

Yes Paradise is on the west side of town. South of Rio Rancho and north of taylor ranch. I'm right around paradise and golf course. I hope to have the opportunity to meet you both. I am taking a huge exam on tuesday so I'm not sure if I'll make it to park day. Even though we just started homeschooling I feel like I've been homeschooling my kids all their lives. Whether it was helping them with their homework or supplementing their work when they weren't being challenged. We are doing the online home schooling thing which makes it easier for us because my husband and I both work full time. So we share homeschooling duties. We also bumped my eight year old into 4th grade with my older daughter so having them work on the same assignments saves a lot of time. And they are both doing great. I love having all this time with my girls  :)

Hello, Elizabeth,
My name is Kirsten and I, too, have been watching this board for a few weeks, but haven't been to any park days.  I am working right now and my oldest daughter is still in public school, but we will be homeschooling beginning in January.  I'll be leaving work on December 19 and we're getting ready for a big transition!  We live in Ventana Ranch (just west of Paradise Hills), and we have two daughters, 7 and 2.  We're planning to take a Tuesday off soon, probably early November, to come to one of the west side park days to try to connect with some of the folks in this group before January.  At any rate, maybe we'll see you sometime soon!

Hello Kirsten and Elizabeth, Welcome to the forum and the looking forward to meeting you at a park day. We live in the Ventana Ranch area and I have three kiddos-Annalisa 11, Mathew 7, and Greyson 2. I too also fall victim to not making it to park days due to our crazy schedule at times, but am so glad when we do! There are such a great group of kids at the park day and it is the highlight of our week. Welcome to homeschooling!  ;D

Hello, I will be  new to home schooling too. I have an 11 year old  son in 6th grade and a 9 year old daughter who is in the 4th grade! We are wondering where I can get the cirriculumS. We are not in NM yet, we get there in 2 weeks! We lived there a year ago for 2 years! I have been online, I have found some sights. It is a little costly, is that normal????  :)
Thanks,
Kelly

Hello and welcome to all the new homeschoolers!  Getting started can be daunting, especially if you don't know other homeschoolers.  I found that getting to know some other HSing families was the biggest help, because everyone approaches homeschooling differently.  For example- Kelly asked about curriculum.  There are so many different choices (though I am pretty sure they are all expensive), but lots and lots of homeschoolers don't use curriculum at all- something I didn't know when I first started thinking about starting our HSing journey.  I would encourage you guys all to stop by a park day, either on the west or the east side, and talk to the families there.  That's probably the best way to find the info you are looking for.  Info on park days scrolls at the top of the main forum page.  Or, for a specific question, you might search the archives of the board (for "curriculum," for instance), or post a separate thread (more people will notice it that way).  I hope that helps, and I hope to meet you all soon!
