Albuquerque Homeschool Forum / Introductions / Living "out there" - looking for contact
Posted by: 516 (Guest), January 5, 2009, 11:01am
Hi, my name is Nikola and I live with my partner Moksha and my little girl Kiara (10 months old) 1 ½ hours southeast of Albuquerque in our beautiful self-built and mostly "green" house.
We live a very secluded life, creating/producing our decorative and functional pottery and trying to sell enough of it through galleries and online to at least get some nice food on the table.
Soon we will plant our first veggies and herbs in our new green house and in spring we will get some chickens … - neither of us ever thought we would live like this not so long ago, but we love it!
It is clear to us that we will home school Kiara when she is old enough and that is why it seemed to me to be a good idea to get to know you, hoping to find some like minded families to maybe spend some time with and give Kiara the chance to experience some other children of different ages.
I was already in contact with Dannie and will try to arrange to be dropped of at one of your park meetings this month. We are going to Albuquerque about two times a month to shop for organic food and other necessities and will try to coordinate it so it happens on a Tuesday or Thursday.
I am looking forward to meeting some of you soon.

Welcome, Nikola. My crew (ages 2, almost 5, 7, and almost 9) and I don't make it to the park days (east side) during the winter months, but I hope to meet you in the spring.
Good luck with your farming--something I'd like to do on a much smaller scale at our home. Maybe you'll have some tips for us.
Katy
Mom to Sarita (9), Nicolas (7), Dani (almost 5), and Joaquin (2 as of yesterday!)

You guys are doing exactly what we want to do. We'd love to build an Earth Shelter / Earthship home on some acreage and live off the grid. We're working towards doing that, maybe in 5-10 years.

Welcome, Nikola! You and I actually have a couple of connections... my husband, Steve, installed your satellite internet! Rob gave Steve a beautiful piece of his pottery which we have on display in our dining room. We also had the same midwife... Terri. I think she was the one who gave you guys our card. Anyway, we homeschool as well. I haven't been going to park day lately, but on nicer days we will try to go to the eastside park day. I hope to meet you. My kids are 11 (he is actually in school), almost 6 (homeschooled), 3 and 1, all boys.

Thank you all for your warm welcome!
How funny, Danielle, to "meet" you again here - yes, it was your husband who "connected us to the world out there" and it was Terri that recommend you. I don't think I knew that you were home schooling. That is wonderful. I am looking forward to meeting you soon outside of "digital reality".
And, Katy, maybe by the time spring comes I do have some gardening tips - right now I am just lucky to have a partner who has gardened before as I have never seriously done it.
As the east side seems to be more convenient for us (we shop around there) I am sure we will meet in person latest in spring.
Good luck to you, Marie, with your building plans. It is wonderful to live off the grid.
Love,
Nikola

Very envious of your earth-friendly lifestyle!!! Hope to meet you sometime, although we don't usually make it to the park! Maybe when it warms up though!
