Albuquerque Homeschool Forum / Introductions / New & want to try Pokemon

Hi everyone,
I have been homeschooling my son(9) for about 2 months now. He hasn't wanted to do any activities yet, but now wants to try Pokemon at Cherry Hills. We were in the library while it was going on this week. So what is Pokemon anyway and what do we need to know/get to participate? It is a HUGE step for my son to want to try. :) I have been needing to get out and meet people, but I needed to wait until he was ready. Thanks.

Hello! My son has been going to Pokemon at the Cherry Hills library since the end of December. Its a really awesome group. There are kids of all ages that play and teach others to play.
I really have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER how to play Pokemon, but all the kids there do. When your child arrives, he will fill out a form and get a card. Every time he plays, he gets a stamp... if he wins he gets an extra stamp. The kids get stamps for trading (max of two per week). There are various places on the card for a POP pack of cards (a free pack of three cards) and once they get enough stamps they can get those. Once the card is full, they get a pokemon pin and a new card. The best thing is that the kids are never without someone to play with. Its really a lot of fun for the kids and the ladies there are wonderful. I did not know any other homeschool families (with the exception of my SIL) and they were very welcoming.
I hope to see you there next Tuesday!
