Just an update on the upcoming egg farm in Corrales. The new babies are just now 6 weeks old and I've just recently added ducks. It will, most likely be around Sept. before we start seeing eggs. I'm not sure how old the ducks will be, before they begin to lay.
Mine is a cushy atmosphere, for the girls (hens) and it will be along time, before I'd consider any butchering. That's not what we're doing. We're raising laying hens for eggs and chicks.
So probably around early fall, there will be natural chicken and duck eggs and I can't wait. And the closest I've come to chemicals, has been vaccinations agains the usual chicken diseases. Aside from that, if it's not nature, it's not going anywhere near my girls.
We've planted a garden that will produce more than 4 families could eat and preserve, for the purpose of giving our girls the best diet possible. Our eggs are going to be power packed with vitamins and minerals and you won't believe the aroma of a freshly cracked, all natural egg.
Not that I'm anxious, or anthing. :)
When the girls are big enough and laying eggs, and everything is settled around here, I'll send out the invitation to bring the kids by for a lesson about 'where do eggs come from' and let them interact with the birds. (hand washing facilities available)
See you guys then~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(waving)
