Albuquerque Homeschool Forum  /  Introductions  /  new with a couple questions

Hi, we're new here and new to homeschooling and completely green on the subject.

We have one son who is school age right now.  Noah who is 10 and in 5th grade.  We're pulling him because we don't really like the private school he's at and this seems like a really neat option for his education.  Our concern though is that he was recently tested and was diagnosed as a very individual case of ADHD where he's not hyper whatsoever but his focus isn't so great.  His problem solving skills were somewhere around the 7th percentile in math.   He's super bright and extremely creative, art is his main outlet, but his grasp of new concepts is not so great.  Math is a big struggle for him, but he does well in other subjects scoring above average in spelling, science and reading.

I guess our question is which curriculum do any parents that may have these same problems recommend?  My first instinct is to gravitate towards Montessori, but he's never done that and he may be in public school next year so it may just complicate matters.

Any suggestions?  HELP!

Hi, welcome!

I have a suggestion to look into for math:  Math-U-See.  I suggest it because the way it is taught has really helped my son to focus.   Math used to be a tear evoking nemesis--for both of us.  Now it isn't. They have placement tests on their website and demo videos as well.

Hope that helps.
