Albuquerque Homeschool Forum  /  Introductions  /  Moving to ABQ with Teenagers

Hi everyone. We are moving from Upstate NY to ABQ in 2 months. I have a 16 year old son, and a 14 year old daughter. Both have always been homeschooled. NY is one of the most regulated states for homeschoolers, so I'm really looking forward to leaving behind the paperwork we do for the school district! Are there many teenagers in the group? Do they come to park days? My daughter is interested in animals, cooking, music (she plays piano), and writing fantasy fiction. My son enjoys music (he's a drummer), photography, science, design, and building things. We're hoping to find some homeschoolers their ages with similar interests.

Welcome, and I hope your move goes as smoothly as a cross-country move can!!

You're right about Albuq. being friendly to homeschoolers, and we do have a lot of them here!  In this group, we don't have too many older teens showing up to the park days and such, but they do show up at the field trips and classes and such. There are a number of girls between 12-14 tho, and there are some other hs groups tied to this group (well, they're all sort of tied to each other) which have a great deal more teen presence. :)

Do post when you are ready to head out, and we'll respond with events, etc. your kids might particularly be interested in. This is a great group anyway, for the organizers are over-the-top nice, helpful and cool (no, I'm not one of them!) and there is a LOT of information shared here.

Bienvenidos! (Welcome!)  Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Welcome! There is a teen homeschooling message board that is an off shoot of this one. Search yahoo groups for abqhomeschoolhigh. We try to stay connected there. I have 4 teens: 19y.o. girl, 17 y.o boy, 16 y.o boy, and 13 y.o girl. My boys are both into music and play guitar & bass and a bit of keyboard/piano. My older girl and my 16 y.o boy love outdoor stuff--archery, hiking, caving. My 13 y.o. girl is really into drawing right now.

We look forward to meeting you!

Thanks for the responses! I'll join the Yahoo Group, and post again when we get there in July.
