Visit the Heritage Farm at the garden to celebrate the connections between plants, animals and people!  
Learn how plants are used to make natural dyes, and watch fiber artisans at work.  
Learn about Navajo Churro sheep and the process used to turn their wool into a warm sweater.

Kids Fishing Fair at Tingley Beach
When: Saturday, February 26; Time: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Children will learn all about fishing by visiting fun and interactive discovery stations.

ZOOM Into Engineering & Science is an annual event that invites families, Kindergarten thru 8th grade school students, Girls & Boys Scouts, and the community to participate in hands-on learning.  Engineers and scientists from across the city will be on hand to help children with science and engineering activities. All activities will be fun, kid friendly and designed to spark interest in the scientific fields of science and engineering.   The February 12, 2011 ZOOM event will focus on materials science in conjunction with KNME’s ‘Making Stuff’ television programming which promotes “Stronger, Smaller, Cleaner, and Smarter materials.  Participants at Zoom (February 2010)  included: Sandia National Laboratories, CNM, UNM, Solar Fiesta, PNM, American Nuclear Society, Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority, Cuidad Soil & Conservation District, Fractal Foundation, Society of Women Engineers, ASK Academy, and ABQ Soaring Society.
        The primary purposes of ZOOM Into Engineering & Science are to:
o   Encourage education that leads to engineering and science degrees;
o   Encourage engineering and science careers;
o   Encourage scientific thought processes and increase students’ skills in science, improving critical thinking, literacy and math
             skills;
o   Foster inquiry based science, constructed with hands-on activities; and
o   Earn scout badges.   All participants who visit at least 10 exhibits receive a stitched patch
        We anticipate more than 500 participants will take part in ZOOM Into Engineering & Science on February 12, 2011, from 10:00am to 3:00 pm.   The cost to participate is free with regular museum admission. For more information call 245-2137, ext 103, or email sfair@nuclearmuseum.org.

Home Depot & Lowe's KID Workshops


On the first Saturday of each month, Home Depot offers the same sort of workshop between 9 a.m. and noon.  (It only lasts that long if there's enough interest.)

These are free programs and great for both genders.  Free aprons and eye protection are usually included and available for take-home.  Certificates are personalized and offered at the end for successful completion of the project.  Lowe's gives a patch and a sticker.  Home Depot gives a pin for clothing.  These are fun to collect and/or scrapbook.  Take your camera . . . it's a hoot!   Take advantage of it!    

On the second Saturday of each month, Lowe's hosts a building workshop for children, free of charge.  I believe it starts at 10 a.m. and lasts one-hour.

The Civil Air Patrol will hold their Aerospace Education Workshop and Fly a Teacher Program
at Kirtland Air Force Base, Saturday, February 26, 2011,
from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
USE AVIATION AND SPACE TO MOTIVATE YOUR STUDENTS
The New Mexico Wing Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is conducting a teacher (All grades)
Aerospace Education Workshop. Receive a free CAP AEM membership, curriculum
materials, lunch, and a free 1 hr flight at the controls of a CAP aircraft.

Registration is required by Feb 23; page 4 of this attachment has the AEM form you need
to fax or email as attachment to Judy Candelaria at KAFB.  Her e-mail, phone, and fax info are on page 1.

I took this class years ago, and it is terrific.  You get tons of books and materials that are linked to
National and NM Standards in many content areas.

And don't forget to take your camera, video the take offs and landings, once in the air, you get to fly the plane to Belen.
