Albuquerque Homeschool Forum  /  Homeschool chat  /  Researching homeschooling

Hello. I am looking to possibly homeschool my son.  He is only 2 but I am already starting my research.  Can anyone tell me the approximate cost for homeschooling?  I have also been able to find that within 1 year a student must meet the same requirements of APS, which is 180 days.  Does anyone know if there are also limits for the hours per day?  I will have to keep working while I homeschool, so I want to find out if this is even an option.  Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what the hours requirements are. You can look here, dowload the manual or call the number:

Cost can vary widely, depending on the family. Some families buy no curriculum, some do.  That can be hundreds of dollars. Some take no classes, some do.  And your child's interest will also determine cost.

Several families here homeschool and work. It is definitely something that can be done. You just have to alter your perceptions on what a school day and school year are and what learning looks like. Each family "does" school in their own way. No family looks the same in this group in how they approach school!  Good luck. You'll find your way!

Jennifer,

There are no hourly minimums for a school day.  The law requires that homeschool instruction be conducted 180 days out of the year, but what you do on those instructional days is up to you as far as what you think works best for your child.  If your child is breezing through what you have planned, you may not need to spend as much time "doing school" those days.  Other days may take longer, still other days you may decide that a field trip will be your school day.  You can hold school during the day or the evening and work it around your work schedule.
