Dear Homeschool Parents,
I am interested in being a homeschool substitute teacher. Is anything like this available out there in the Albuquerque homeschool community? I am a retiring NM licensed K-8 teacher with ESL endorsement. Linda S :)

Linda
I would be interested in talking to you about some possibilities. Can you send me a message with a way to get a hold of you off forums?
Thanks ~ Rebecca

A couple people asked me about this thread, so just for clarification, a quote from
http://www.ped.state.nm.us/homeSchools/index.html
Quoted Text
Can I home school someone else's child whether I'm related to them or not?
New Mexico state law requires that the home school operator is the parent or the legal guardian.

It is good to clarify what the state law is but a home school family certainly can use other people to supplement their curriculum or teach specific classes or subjects. The operative word in the above quote is "operator" meaning the person in charge and planning the curriculum. So really, what the state means is that someone else cannot be the "Principal" of your home school. Just like in public school, a substitute should be working off of the main teacher's curriculum and direction. And there are many classes and co-operatives that teach subjects to home schooled students for the entire year.
Linda, it may be more productive for you to offer to tutor or teach specific subjects that you are particularly good at. Although there might be a rare occasion where someone would need a "substitute" due to an illness or family emergency, it would probably be extremely unlikely. There is, however, a reasonable need for people with expertise in areas such as Wilson Reading, math tutoring and science. So you may be able to supplement your income with some part-time work that way.
Again, if you send me a message, I would be happy to talk with you.
