Hello,
I have been very much involved with public schools as my son has been in school. He was diagnosed with ADHD and SPD when he was 6 & thus started the process of medication & behavior modification in school. He is now in 4th grade and we are still having to start every year on a bad note because of all the steps to help him are not put in place right away and we have to go through the IEP process all over. Due to all of this he has never had any lasting friends in school, he is labeled as defiant as he cannot sit still (with maximum meds for his age & weight), his teachers are unable to connect with him because they take his defense mechanisms as disrespect. He was once a very confident and happy child, yet he feels "stupid" because he can't keep up in class. What's really sad about this is he is also in the Gifted Program at school & is excelling in that class. So without continuing a sob story-we will be establishing Home School in the New Year. I already teach his little brother Pre-School at home. I would take him out right now but he asked to stay in school until Winter Vacation. My biggest concern is socialization. I would love for my son to have healthy relationships with kids his own age or age group. If anyone has any similar stories or info that can ease us into this we would really appreciate it.  :)

Took my oldest out of "School" the end of 4th grade and things are much better. He has never been on meds, but we were headed that way and I was not happy. My children have great friends since we joined this group.
